How to get to Stara Novalja.

Two routes get you to the same garden. Where you're starting from decides which one's quicker. Scroll down for the decision, plus the live cameras and weather you can check before you set off.

Two routes

Where are you
starting from?

If you're coming from the north or west (Zagreb, Rijeka, Istria, Slovenia), the ferry is shorter and cheaper. From the south (Zadar, Split, the airport), the bridge is faster.

From the north

Prizna → Žigljen ferry.

The shortest crossing on this stretch of coast, 15 minutes door to door. From Zagreb, the drive comes out to about 220 km on the A1 versus 330 km via the Pag bridge. That saves you roughly an hour.

  • Standard car (up to 5.4 m long, 2 m tall): 12,20 € off-season, 18,10 € in summer
  • Adult passenger: 2,50 € / 4,30 €. Children 3 to 12 pay roughly half
  • Sails between 13 and 21 times a day, depending on season
  • About 25 km from Žigljen to our gate
  • Strong bura (NE wind) can pause sailings, so check before you leave

From the south

Pag bridge.

The land route, open all year with no boarding queue and no waiting on the sea. From Zadar Airport it's about an hour by car. From Split, around three.

  • No toll on the bridge itself
  • Open day and night, never affected by sea conditions
  • About 60 km from the bridge to our gate
  • Closes in extreme bura. Rare, but does happen in winter

Before you leave

Check the conditions
before you set off.

The crossing gets bumpy in winter and on windy summer days. The forecast below is for Stara Novalja itself, which is usually a fair summer proxy for the channel. In winter the channel can be rougher than the bay, so the cameras are the better check.

Skip the ticket booth

Buy your ferry ticket in the Jadrolinija app.

Drive straight onto the ferry instead of queuing at the Prizna booth. Worth installing before you set off, because in summer that queue can be the slowest part of the trip.

Apt. Romana

Very nice hosts — they greeted us every day with a smile and were so accommodating with all our questions. The apartment is near the beach, in a quiet part of town. We used the kitchen and terrace a lot for our meals. Everything was in perfect order. Thank you.

A wonderful holiday has come to an end! It was a beautiful stay with such attentive hosts (Miroslav and family) who always had an ear for us, no matter what we asked. He even handled the communication for us when booking a trial dive for my granddaughter. As helpful as anyone could hope for. If we ever come back to Croatia, we already know where we'll be staying 😉 Happy to come back any time — we really enjoyed our time here. Thank you for the lovely stay 🙏
